Mt. Shasta Meet, 2000

Here's a quick look at the mountain itself, taken from the road to the ski area.

The Strawberry Valley Inn is where registration takes place and where many of the roadsters stay (particularly the Modesto club members). If you get there early enough, it looks like this...

...but it won't be long before it looks like this!

The person you'll want to see to register is Phyllis Almazan. That's her on the left, Herb Petty in the middle and Dave Almazan on the right.

and this is her car, a 1967 2000. Beautiful!

By the way, this is Herb's unbelievably clean 1966 with a KA24 motor. It took 1st in 1600 Modified and Best of Show (to no one's surprise).

One of the reasons why people like to stay at the Strawberry Valley Inn (besides all the cool roadsters) is that it's an incredibly nice place. This is the patio where they serve a Continental breakfast every morning and refreshments every afternoon.

Another "regular" at the Strawberry is Tom Thompson from Roseburg, Oregon with his 1970 2000.

Here's a shot of the interior, taken at the Saturday show.

And speaking of the big show, let's go look at it right now. There were four 1500's in attendance, all excellent.

My favorite was this ivory 1964, could you tell?
It belongs to Kyall and Aleta McGee of Roseburg, Oregon.

To show you how great-looking they all were, this one didn't win! The blue one did.

Ken Pletcher was there with the famous and beautiful "Datster" and got a well-deserved 1st in 2000 Modified.

Note the lack of windows. This would never work in the Pacific NW, but it's great for California.

That's Sean Kirk on the left and Dave Premo on the right, standing next to Sean's killer 2000 w/nitrous, which took 2nd in 2000 Modified.

If you see this car up in British Columbia, don't race him! Nitrous, Solexes, Yokohama A-032's and a 2.5" exhaust say you'll lose. His favorite sport is infuriating Porsche drivers.

Michael "Calspeed" Carion was there with his 1967 Solex 2000 race/street car. He won 1st Place in 2000 Custom.

The world's most incredible dashboard! That's Yutaka Katayama's signature (Mr. K)!

Greg Burrows' 1967 2000 "Barbie car." Greg is from Puyallup, Washington. I love to mention that because it's so much fun to hear "non-locals" try to pronounce these Native American names (It's pew-AL-up).

Mike Young from the SF Bay Area was there, too, with his 1967 2000 and took 1st Place in 2000 Stock.

This stock 1969 2000 had the most beautiful blue paint! I'm afraid the picture doesn't do it justice.

Daniel Neuman of the Bay Area had the only flame job at the show.

Paul Strassmaier of Vancouver, Washington did a wonderful restoration on this 1967 2000 and was rewarded with 2nd Place in Stock 2000.

Check the pictures closely - this car used to be an ice racer in Canada!

Dave and Cheryl Seibel also came "all the way" from Roseburg, Oregon and took 3rd Place in Stock 2000. Roseburg must have more roadsters per capita than any place in the country!

But the shortest drive was probably Chris and Tony Defty from Medford, Oregon (about 100 miles), who took 2nd Place in stock 1600.

This very bright yellow 2000 belongs to John Friederich of Las Vegas, Nevada. John put together an excellent videotape of the event.

Fred Katz finally winds up in a picture instead of taking it. They're starting to line the cars up for the group shot. Fred got 2nd in 1600 Modified.

Nothing like wall-to-wall roadsters!

What could be better than a seat in the shade and a whole parking lot full of roadsters to admire!

And here are all the proud owners with their cars.

Finally, I'd like to apologize to all those whose pictures I didn't get a chance to take. This show is getting big enough that I can't get all around the whole thing in the alloted time and still have a chance to really enjoy all the cars and the people. The quality of the cars at this year's show was the best I've ever seen! It just keeps getting better and better every year.
