Welcome to the library of "The Roads Scholar." The main focus of this page is
driving and the love of cars, rather than any particular car. It's a collection of
articles I've written (usually for a club newsletter), links to other interesting
pages, plus a few book reviews.

- Datsun Roadster - An Unrecognized Classic
- The Datsun Roadster holds a special place in sports car history, but few people realize it. It is a point where two trends crossed in the automotive world.
- Does Speed Really Kill? Does Red Still Mean "Stop"
- Debunking some old beliefs and looking at some scary new trends in today's driving.
- Please Don't Feed The Bears
- We're talkin' Smokies here… How to avoid contributing your hard-earned dollars to their donut fund.
- Common Washington State Speed Traps
- And speaking of radar and such…
- Japanese Motoring History Home Page
- Here's a very interesting page. Broken English but still definitely worth it. The lower-level pages have been "in preparation" for quite some time now; I hope it comes to pass eventually.
- National Transportation Statistics (NTS)
- For those who demand proof of my opinions about the effect of speed on traffic safety, here's the
raw data from the Federal Dept. of Transportation.
- Reasonable Drivers Unanimous
- I share their opinion that there is a LOT more to traffic safety than speed limits.

Recommended Reading
Prior to the Internet, people used to actually read and write physical books! Yes, I know
this is a radical concept, and some may even find it shocking. But if you can work up the
the nerve to go find some of these books, it is definitely worth it.

- Driving In Competition by Alan Johnson
- Johnson, a 4-time SCCA National Champion, takes a unique look at how to go racing. Some of it is a bit dated, but his method of analysing types of corners is excellent!
- Bob Bondurant on High Performance Driving by Bob Bondurant
- Bondurant has driven everything up to and including Formula 1 cars.
- Datsun Roadsters 1962-1971 by various
- This is a collection of road tests from magazines all over the world. Great reference to have. Yes, I know there were no 1971 roadsters; Brooklands hasn't figured that out yet. But it's still the only collection of roadster road tests available.
- Illustrated Datsun/Nissan Sports Car Buyer's Guide by John Matras
- The only compilation I have seen on Datsun sports cars. It is quite good in spite of a few errors. Covers all the sporting Nissans up through the new 200SX SE-R.
